MANHATTAN REPERTORY THEATRE
Presents the World Premiere of
The Literary Lionesses of Lower Manhattan
by Zachary Michael Jack
Production Dates: March 23, 24, and 25.
Opening Night: Friday, March 23
MANHATTAN—Manhattan Repertory Theatre serves up a Digital Age comedy of manners in The Literary Lionesses of Lower Manhattan, a world premiere farce written by award-winning playwright Zachary Michael Jack.
The play follows the exploits of two delightfully precocious young writers—the play’s eponymous “Literary Lionesses”—in their quest to write the Great American Novel in ten weeks while simultaneously attempting to find love in the rustic wilds of the Adirondacks. Barbed British-styled farce blends seamlessly with feel-good American rom com in a situational comedy that begins in a writers’ workshop classroom on the Lower East Side and climaxes Upstate in the woods and wilds near Big Moose Lake.
Long-time Manhattan Rep. artistic director Ken Wolf describes Jack’s farce as “a wild mash-up of Harry Potter and Oscar Wilde and great fun.” Wolf has assembled a talented cast to deliver the script’s razor-sharp wit and outsized physical comedy, featuring the acting talents of Samantha Proctor, Finty McBain, Michael Buckhout, Jack McKeever, Lisa Walker, Martin Goldberg, Devin Rogers, and Karina Nunez.
Literary Lionesses opens a three-day run on Friday, March 23 at 9 p.m. at Manhattan’s Rep’s new location on West 45th Street in Midtown, and continues Saturday, March 24, at 9 p.m., and Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $20 or reserved in advance at http://manhattanrep.com/literary-lionesses-of-lower-manhattan/
