THE LEGACY OF WELLES REMY CROWTHER: The Man in the Red Bandana Documentary play to premiere at the 9/11 Museum on May 15 (New York, NY) The New York City premiere of the documentary play about the hero who died in the South Tower, THE LEGACY OF WELLES REMY CROWTHER: The Man in the Red Bandana, will be presented as a concert reading at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum on Thursday, May 15 at 6:00 pm. The date marks the 11th anniversary of the dedication of the Museum, when President Obama opened his keynote speech with the story of Welles Crowther’s compassion and courage. The script, created verbatim from primary sources by playwright-director Lisa Rafferty, highlights the heroic of Crowther, features a cast of 15, including actors from Broadway, the first responder community, and Boston College, Welles’ alma mater. Offers Alison Crowther, “To have Welles’ story memorialized in this way, as told by family and friends who knew and loved him deeply, is a unique and powerful tribute to his life and legacy.” Based on over 30 interviews with Welles’ family and friends, the production focuses on his growing up in Nyack, NY, what happened on that terrible day, and the powerful impact of his brave actions, then and now. There are thousands of students and so many others who have come to know his story through the important education work of the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, the well-known ESPN documentary, and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The cast will be led by Tony Award-nominee Tovah Feldshuh, playing Alison Crowther, and features cast members from Broadway, film and television and beyond, including Rob Byrnes, Dave Daly, Kelly Deadmon, Lauren Gemelli, Jennifer Jiles, Francis Jue, Bill Mootos, Matthew O’Connor, Michael O’Leary, Lisa Pratt, Jose Eduardo Ramos, Mike Timoney, Rachel Zatcoff and John Zion. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring 9/11, documenting its impact, and examining its continuing significance. This mission is advanced through commemoration, education, and inspiration. Located on eight of the 16 acres of the World Trade Center site, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum remembers and honors the 2,938 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993. Through exhibitions, a wide variety of programs, and commemorative events, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum seeks to educate the public – particularly the 100 million Americans born since the attacks or those too young to remember – about the consequences of terrorism and its impact on individuals and communities. Through preserving and sharing stories of resilience, compassion, and service, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum hopes to inspire individuals to build a more compassionate and secure world. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s programs are made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
