My Sister, My Sister is a dark, psychological play that delves into the life and mind of an African-American girl growing up in a working class household. Set in the 1950s, SueBelle must cope with an over-religious but loving mother, an alcoholic but well-meaning father, and a promiscuous but ignored older sister.
Revived from the award-winning Broadway production by Ray Aranha and now directed by Obie Award winner Arthur W. French Jr., this play will capture a human experience. Through vivid flashbacks and pressures of mother nature, the audience will be left questioning social and cultural norms, and addressing taboos.
"It is work guaranteed not to soothe - but it should stimulate - a subscription audience. Black or white - we can understand and sympathize with the plight of SueBelle. This is a sad, but not somber, period piece, remembering a time before black consciousness."
This play does contain mature language and themes.
