Stark Motion Presents AURELIA AND IMAGO In The NY FRIGID Fest
Brianna Stark performs vibrant new solo show incorporating film and dance in the New York FRIGID festival. Aurelia and Imago originally premiered in September, 2009 while Stark was selected as the 6th Annual Artist in residence of the Sunshine Coast Dance Residency, BC. Choreographed and performed by Stark, Aurelia and Imago who's title is inspired by it's metaphoric theme, includes cinematography by ReelSuite (Vancouver), a Costume design by Stark, which is also used as a magnetic prop and a dress by award winning "green" designer Katherine Soucie. Aurelia and Imago will be playing at the Kraine theatre and is the only show in the festival, which offers a free admission.
Bombarded by striking images of dynamic cells, outer-space, the birth of a butterfly, and digital cityscapes, Stark moves the viewer through a world of imagery where dance and video are intertwined. The piece explores the relationship of essence to matter, the cellular to the universal and the state of longing in between. The 45 minute solo has a gripping soundscape from heart pumping trance techno to the obscure and emotionally charged. Stark asks "Have you ever wondered if you could or should be doing something else with your life? if you truly really are 100% on the right path?" The movements of Aurelia and Imago are structured around this kind of instinctive, yet intangible questioning.
Stark influenced by both her career as a contemporary dance artist, training in Halprin Life/Art Process (founded by American dance pioneer Anna Halprin) and Movement-based Expressive Arts Therapy draws inspiration from her life experiences to begin the creative process. the result is a visually and emotionally stimulating piece which takes on a life of its own, but the movements are all generated from a place of direct meaning rather than from a particular style as are many popular forms of dance.
