Bring sheet music or recorded accompaniment. Headshots are optional. Be prepared to read from the script. Be prepared for movement/dress accordingly. Dance training is welcomed, but not required.SYNOPSIS:SWEET CHARITY explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score and a hilarious script, SWEET CHARITY captures all the energy, humor, and heartbreak of life in the big city for an unfortunate, but irrepressible optimist. Iconic musical numbers include: Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now, and Rich Mans Frug.CHARACTER BREAK DOWN:*All ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition. CHARITY HOPE VALENTINE (30s - 40s, Mezzo) Dancehall hostess; dreams of finding true love. HELENE (20s - 40s, Mezzo) Sultry; sassy dancer; best friend to Charity. NICKIE (30s - 40s, Mezzo) Brassy New Yorker; dancer; friend to Charity. OSCAR LINDQUIST (30s - 40s, Baritone) Bit of a square; claustrophobic; accountant; gentle. VITTORIO VIDAL (30s - 40s, Baritone) Italian movie star; very attractive; charming. DADDY BRUBECK (20s - 50s, Baritone) Goovy; hip; souful. HERMAN (30s - 40s, Strong Tenor) Sleezy owner of the dance hall; heart of gold. URSULA MARCH (20s - 40s) Jealous; wife of Vittorio. CARMEN (20s - 50s) Dancer; sarcastic.
