Press, written by Kristen Adele Calhoun and directed by Tiffany Nichole Greene, tells the true story of John Mitchell, Jr., the "Fighting Editor" of the Richmond Planet newspaper, as he fights to save an extraordinary man's life. Set in Jackson Ward, America's original Black Wall Street, the play asks how we demand justice under impossible circumstances, and what we dare put in print when everything is at risk. The production marks the world premiere and is the culmination of the John Mitchell, Jr. Project, a multi-year research and development collaboration with the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and the Richmond Planet Foundation. Greene makes her Firehouse Theatre debut with this production.
