Virginia Musical Theatre Opens Its 25th Season with Disney's Frozen
The beloved Disney musical comes to the Sandler Center October 9–11 with a cast of 41 and live orchestra
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — [September 8, 2026] — Virginia Musical Theatre opens its 35th Season with Disney's Frozen, October 9–11, 2026, at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, Frozen brings the beloved story of sisters Elsa and Anna to the stage in a spectacular musical filled with heart, humor, unforgettable characters and songs including “Let It Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “For the First Time in Forever.”
VMT’s production features a cast of 41 performers and a live orchestra, led by Musical Director Evan Meares, a former Governor’s School for the Arts musical theatre student. The production is directed by Thomas Conroy, who previously served as Musical Director for VMT’s 2025 production of A Christmas Carol.
Taking on the iconic role of Elsa is Leah Platt, whose credits include the First National Tours of Funny Girl and Fiddler on the Roof, as well as Frozen with Disney Cruise Line. Her regional credits include Pretty Woman, Next to Normal, The Prom and Which Way to the Stage?
Elana Simard stars as Anna. A Boston-raised, New York City-based actress and graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Simard’s recent credits include the world premiere of Billy Recce’s The Mermaids and Les Misérables.
Jason Ivan Rodriguez returns to the role of Kristoff after previously performing the role at Slow Burn Theatre. The New York City-based performer has appeared in Come From Away at Ivoryton Playhouse and Waitress at ACT of Connecticut, and was part of the company of From Here to Eternity, working with composer Sir Tim Rice.
Daniel Fetter makes his Virginia Musical Theatre debut as Hans. A New York-based actor, Fetter was most recently seen in the Broadway company of The Book of Mormon as a standby for Elder Price.
Rounding out the principal cast are Ryan Rudel as Olaf, Jonathan Sandow as Weselton, Stephen Young as Sven, Dylan Jackson Cavasos as Oaken/Male Ensemble, and Erik Houck as Pabbie/Male Ensemble.
The production brings together a creative team with strong ties to Virginia Musical Theatre. Angela Brown serves as choreographer following her work on VMT’s Footloose, for which she received a regional BroadwayWorld award for choreography.
The creative team also includes Ben Needham (Set and Video Design), Sandy Short (Costume Design), Jason Amato(Lighting Design), Steven Allegretto (Sound Design), Richard Simpson (Props Master), and Kay Burcher (Wig Stylist).
“We’re thrilled to open Virginia Musical Theatre’s 35th season with Frozen. This production is going to be spectacular, with an incredible cast, live orchestra and a wonderful creative team bringing this beloved story to life on the Sandler Center stage. Tickets are selling quickly, particularly for the Saturday and Sunday matinees, so audiences looking for the best seat selection should consider the Friday and Saturday evening performances.”
