Wayside Theatre Leaves Fiscal Doubts Behind, Announces New Plans for the Future

After struggling mightily with fiscal challenges that beset Virginia's second oldest professional theatre since the economic crash of 2008, Wayside Theatre's Board of Directors today announces new plans for going forward. The plans include unprecedented hands-on efforts by the Board of Directors in the areas of marketing and fundraising, as well as a new level of transparency with Wayside Theatre supporters and the community about how those plans progress.

The Virginia Arts Festival from today, March 17 thru June 2, 2013, will present a season with extraordinary arts experiences not only in theaters, concert halls and historic churches, but in city streets and parks. It will be a season of artistic celebrations featuring a performance of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, presented on the exact day of its 100th anniversary. Dance is a signature element of the Virginia Arts Festival, and this year Britain's esteemed Birmingham Royal Ballet travels for the only US performances in 2013 with its beguilingly danced production of Coppélia.

The Upright Citizens Brigade, the theatre company that started the careers of comic greats Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz, Ed Helms and Rob Corddry, has extended its reach beyond its two theatres in New York City and Los Angeles with its touring company. The Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Co. will perform for one night at The Alden in McLean at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Tickets are $30, $20 for McLean tax district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
