Doug Berky in “No Show” Is Next Offering in The Alden's McLean Kids Series

The McLean Kids Performance Series continues at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a performance of "No Show" starring mime artist Doug Berky, whose work reflects the styles of the commedia dell'arte and vaudeville, and the influences of such comic greats as Charlie Chaplin and Carol Burnette. Tickets are $15, $10 for McLean tax district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside, inside the McLean Community Center.
Pat Hazell to Bring THE WONDER BREAD YEARS to Alden in McLean, 10/26

Former "Seinfeld" writer, playwright and humorist Pat Hazell will perform his hilarious look back at all things American, "The Wonder Bread Years," at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at The Alden. Tickets are $30, $20 for McLean tax district residents; patrons can purchase tickets at a $5 discount before Thursday, Sept. 26. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.
Study Reveals Barter Theatre's $34 Million Annual Economic Impact

Barter Theatre has released the results of a major study measuring the theatre's impact on the local economy. The independent study determined that Barter Theatre is responsible for generating $34 million in economic impact and supporting 485 jobs across the economic spectrum. Barter is a non-profit organization with an annual operating budget of just over $6 million, located in historic downtown Abingdon, Virginia.

Arts on the Horizon, the first dedicated theatre for very young children in the United States, announces its 2013-2014 programming which will reach over 2,000 children under six years old across the metropolitan D.C. region. Inspired by theater for ages 0-6 that she had seen internationally, founder and producing artistic director, Michelle Kozlak, started Arts on the Horizon to provide Northern Virginia families with high-quality participatory theater created specifically for this young age group. Arts on the Horizon's shows are interactive, inclusive, and intimate; adhering to a completely nonverbal performance style making each piece accessible to children whose first language is not English, children who are deaf or hard of hearing, and children at any stage of language development. The season features two Arts on the Horizon original, commissioned productions including Sunny and Licorice by Miriam Gonzales, and Under the Canopy, a ground breaking theatrical piece and sensory experience for children under 2 years old, created by Matt Bassett and Tia Shearer Bassett. Additionally, audiences will be able to see two returning shows, originally commissioned and produced by Arts on the Horizon: The Young Spectaculars and the Front Yard Adventure and Drumming with Dishes: Holiday Edition, both by David Kilpatrick.

PBS' new performance documentary A RAISIN IN THE SUN REVISITED: THE RAISIN CYCLE AT CENTER STAGE explores the history and legacy of Lorraine Hansberry's groundbreaking 1959 play through the lens of a culturally significant milestone: the staging of two contemporary, issues-oriented plays that Raisin inspired: Bruce Norris's Tony Award-winning Clybourne Park and Beneatha's Place by Kwame Kwei-Armah, artistic director of the State Theater of Maryland, Baltimore's Center Stage.The program premieres Friday, October 25 at 9:00 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings) as part of the PBS ARTS FALL FESTIVAL, which highlights artists and performances from around the country and invites every American into the worlds of music, theater, opera and cultural history.

This year, The Alden in McLean is celebrating Halloween with the screening of two scary movies, something old and something relatively new. The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with the 1920 classic film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari." Tickets are $10, $6 for MCC district residents. On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m., the theatre will show 2011's "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." Admission is free. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Little Theatre of Norfolk, one of the countries 'oldest continuously running' community theatres in the nation presents a Hampton Roads Premiere of 9 to 5 from Sept. 6-29. Two years ago after this 86 year old theatre serving a community (largely of Military Families) ventured on a new quest after it's 250,000 face lift. Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts is pleased to join with Boeing and USO-Metro to donate 100 complimentary tickets to military personnel and their families throughout the 2013 summer season. A total of 50 tickets will be donated for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The screening will take place on Friday, September 6 at 7:30 pm at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. The performance features the film shown on huge screens in-house and on the lawn, accompanied by a live orchestra, The City Choir of Washington, and the World Children's Choir.
