THE PLAY
This sensational musical tells the exuberant, heart-warming true story of singer/songwriter Peter Allen, whose young life is marred by an abusive father, but whose will to perform proves stronger. Through sheer talent and some luck, Allen ends up in the glamorous orbit of Judy Garland and her soon-to-be-famous daughter, Liza. Forte Dramatic Productions in association with Pierrot Productions brings us a musical tale filled with hits like “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” “Love Don’t Need a Reason,” “Everything Old is New Again” and “I Go to Rio.”

AUDITION PREPARATION
Please note: All those auditioning must be 18 years of age or older. Prepare a short song highlighting your vocal and acting abilities. Those auditioning for Peter, Liza, or dance ensemble should be prepared to dance in proper attire, Dance shoes: Women in character heels. Men, Jazz/Character shoes. Bring tap shoes.
We are not looking for celebrity impersonators.

While we would love for Peter, Judy, and Liza to “look” the part, it is much more important that the performer convey the spirit of the role than it is to do an impression.

AVAILABLE ROLES
Peter Allen (ages 20’s-early 40’s): A “star turn” that will showcase the amazing talents of one lucky actor. Must be able to sing, dance (tap), act, and charm the hell out of the audience. Ability to play the piano is a plus, but not a requirement. This performer must be comfortable playing romantic scenes with both men and women.

Young Peter Allen (ages 8-12): Must be able to play around age 10. A junior tap dancer. Strong singing and dancing required PLEASE NOTE: Auditions will be selected from the resumes of those submitted by the time of auditions and will be by invitation for Sunday, February 12th in the early afternoon. You will be asked to dance and sing a selected song from the show.

Judy Garland (ages 30’s-50’s): A legend at the end of her career and lifetime. A fantastic singer who can handle some lighter choreography and a few challenging acting moments.

Marion Woolnough (ages 40’s and up): Salt of the earth and mother to Peter Allen. Please prepare a power ballad (high belt) in a similar style to “Don’t Cry Out Loud.”

Liza Minnelli (ages 20’s-30’s): A critical role that cannot be overshadowed by Peter or Judy, Liza is a powerhouse in her own right and a singing and dancing dynamo. This is Liza at the height of her theatrical ability and as such should command the stage when performing and appear vulnerable and endearing when in scenes. Please prepare a short song to showcase your vocal and acting ability and come prepared to dance.

Greg Connell (ages 20’s-40’s): Baritone pop. Peter Allen’s lover, professional and put together, attractive/male model. Singing and dancing required.

Dee Anthony (ages 40’s and up): Peter Allen’s US agent. (singing role, light choreography)

Dick Woolnough (ages 40’s and up): Peter Allen’s alcoholic father.

Chris Bell (ages 20’s): Young song writer and member of the Allen Brothers. Double as ensemble. Strong singing and dancing required.

Back-up Singers… (ages 20’s-40’s) A group of talented vocalists who act as part of the “act” singing back-ups and doing light “chairography.” Must sing harmonies well.

Dance Ensemble (ages 20’s-30’s) The various performers who appear on-stage with Peter throughout his life and take on a variety of roles. Must tap!
