THE THIN MAN by Dashiell Hammett
A Live Radio Play

First published as a magazine serial in 1933, The Thin Man written by Dashiell Hammett features the society couple Nick and Nora Charles and their dog Asta who are drawn into the seamy underbelly of crime as amateur sleuths. While living the high life of martinis and champagne toasts in their regular life, they become the favorite rescuers to friends and relatives who for one reason or another have found themselves embroiled in criminal activities. The Thin Man became a radio serial hit and then was most famously memorialized in Hollywood movies featuring William Powell and Myrna Loy.
We will be presenting this as a live radio drama with individual microphones behind plexiglass and with a live sound effect artist. A number of the performers will play multiple parts in order to bring the show to life.
Characters in this play include: Nick, Nora, Dorothy Wynant, Joe Morelli, Julia Wolf, Macaulay, Laura, Jean, Mimi Wynant, Gilbert Wynant and Al Nunheim.
Note: Auditions will be the performance of a dialogue for which you'll be reading the part for which you're auditioning. Pick one of the sides available with which to audition--not all characters are represented in these sides but pick one that seems appropriate for you. Auditions will be through a video submission or via Zoom. The director will follow up with each person regarding callbacks.
Because we intend to film this live, it will be necessary to be in Santa Barbara at least from February 20-March 10, 2021. Rehearsals will start online but if possible may also take place in a socially distanced outside performance space.
