THE LANGUAGE HE CALLED GOD (WORKSHOP) - Royal Family Productions

Casting Non-Union Chorus Members for New Off-Broadway Workshop

Royal Family Productions

ABOUT ROYAL FAMILY:

Located in the heart of Times Square, we incubate diverse new stories that may not have the chance to develop in a conventional environment. Bravery and fearlessness are imperative to our process: artists and audiences alike are challenged in a creative safe space.

ABOUT THE PLAY:

Set in California in the fall of 2025, THE LANGUAGE HE CALLED GOD follows Jonah, a teenage boy, and his mother as their relationship begins to fracture. The play unfolds inside a home where love, fear, and belief collide, and where ordinary words take on dangerous meaning.

THE LANGUAGE HE CALLED GOD explores how radical political movements enter domestic spaces by borrowing the language of religion, examining the growing influence of figures like Charlie Kirk on young men in America, and the devastating intimacy of belief when it becomes absolute.

SEEKING:

Ensemble: Any age. Any gender. Any ethnicity. A Greek-chorus style group of actors who are comfortable with devised movement. The ensemble will collaborate with the creative team to build the world of the play. We are seeking artists that are excited about being part of developing a new work, and are open to entering a project that is still very much in draft.

ALREADY CAST:

Pastor Charlie (TBA): Local pastor. Thoughtful, sincere, and committed to practicing what he preaches. Becomes part of Jonah’s world, even as it becomes clear that the most powerful influences shaping Jonah’s beliefs are not happening in church, but online and after school, through media that reframes ideology as faith.

Marla (Laura Allen): Jonah’s mother. As Jonah’s language hardens into certainty, she struggles to recognize the voice he’s begun to trust and what it may cost them both.

Jonah (Harper Weyman): Teenage boy. Wants to be baptized, joins an after-school boys’ youth group. What starts as a sincere search for belonging, faith, and moral clarity slowly reshapes the way he speaks and the way he understands the world.
