STOP ALL THE GAYCISM - SPARK Festival, Chain Theatre
Audition for a one night only festival performance in Emerging Artists Theatre's SPARK Festival on March 22. It's a 10 person monologue based performance, mostly solo pieces back to back ranging in 2-4 minute sets per character. Each story told is a real life experience of the playwright's loved ones, and each contributed artistic act from each is chosen by the original storyteller.
There will be limited rehearsals - one, MAYBE two live rehearsals before TECH (a schedule that has not been given by the festival yet) but will be the week of the performance, if not day of on March 22, performance day. Each performer will get a very modest stipend of $25 for participating. If possible, I want to cast as authentically as possible to help visibility and
Synopsis: Stop All the Gaycism is an art piece within a play. It honors the truths within the LGBTQAI+ community about feeling persecuted, bullied or otherwise Kafka-esque by creating monologue based conversations about coming out stories and exposure, lived through events, free hugs and other topics that makes one feel less othered. The passion expressed in words is matched on canvas as each actor (and perhaps some audience members) contribute to creating a live art piece on stage, start to finish. It’s easy to feel like what happened to us is some wild isolated cruelty but I’m hoping to show that we’ve never really been alone in it as evidenced by these stories curated from interviews of friends and family.
