About the play: Simon Mostyn has recently married the wealthy and beautiful Kay Ridgeway, having jilted his former fiancé Jacqueline. The newlyweds are on their honeymoon on a paddle steamer on the Nile, accompanied by a bevy of memorable characters including Canon Pennefather, Kay's guardian, and Jacqueline, who, though uninvited, has been dogging their footsteps all through the honeymoon. What started as a pleasant diversion up the Nile to see the sites has become a thrill-ride of jealousy, suspicion and murder, with every character given the opportunity to show their best (and worst) selves. Quite different from the films and TV movies based on the book, Agatha Christie wrote the play herself, and crafted it for the medium of theatre and for the theatre actors she so loved and admired.
