A Short Leap Theatre Co. is seeking actors for its upcoming production of Lungs by Duncan MacMillan. Direction by Olivia Tennison & Assistant Direction by Tori Kilkenny
Auditions will take place on January 16, 6:00 – 10:00 PM. Virtual Auditions are being accepted through 11:59PM on January 15, 2026. Invited Callbacks will take place in person on January 17 at 6:00 PM.
Attendance at callbacks is required to be considered for casting.
Synopsis: A young couple find themselves examining the scope of their lives together and the world around them when they begin the conversation around starting a family.
Pay
$750 stipend, to be paid at the conclusion of the run.
This production will utilize external Understudies.
All Understudies will have guaranteed performances.

First Rehearsal – February 16, 2026
First Preview – March 19, 2026
Opening – March 20, 2026
Closing – April 4, 2026
Rehearsals will take place in the evening during the week, endeavoring to follow a Monday-Thursday rehearsal schedule, but final schedule will be dependent on cast availability. This schedule will be made available to you as soon as possible.
Performances will follow a Thurs-Fri-SatNight-SunMat schedule. All performances will take place at Greenhouse Theatre Center
Character Descriptions:
W - Late 20s–early 30s (flexible).
Thoughtful, incisive, emotionally agile. She is deeply aware of the world around her—politically, environmentally, ethically—and carries the weight of that awareness into her most intimate decisions. Curious and articulate, she thinks quickly and feels deeply, often simultaneously. Her intelligence is not academic posturing but lived, urgent, and personal. She wants to do the right thing, even when she’s not sure what that is. (ALSO SEEKING UNDERSTUDY.)
M - Late 20s–early 30s (flexible).
Warm, earnest, and emotionally open. He is pragmatic without being cynical, hopeful without being naïve. He wants connection, stability, and forward momentum, and often approaches problems with a practical optimism that contrasts with The Woman’s spiraling inquiry. He listens deeply, loves generously, and is sometimes surprised by the depth of his own vulnerability. (ALSO SEEKING UNDERSTUDY.)
Gender is written as Woman and Man in the text, but actors of any gender identity, gender expression, or lived experience are encouraged to audition and may be cast. These characters are defined by their humanity, not by gender. We are excited by casting that brings lived truth, nuance, and specificity to the roles. ALL ACTORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
Preparation
Please bring in the monologue that you love performing the most. It doesn’t have to be comedic or dramatic, just the piece you love to do. Please be prepared to have a conversation with the directing team.
