This November, FAO Schwarz will bring its legendary brand and experiences back to the heart of New York City with a new flagship store to open at
30 Rockefeller Plaza, one of the most highly trafficked and visible locations in Manhattan.
FAO Schwarz is one of the oldest, most historic, and iconic toy brands in the world. The new flagship store will feature top experiences and demos to instill that wonderment, theater and “play” that FAO is known for.
Beginning on Saturday, September 8 and Monday, September 10 through Friday, September 14, the FAO Schwarz team will host a FAO Schwarz Talent Toy-nament casting call at
Triad Theatre on the Upper West Side. The goal is to hire around 140 talented in-store employees and actors who will ultimately breathe life into FAO Schwarz on a day-to-day basis and run the brand new experiential programs being offered.
A panel of judges, including FAO executives, toy store partners and notables from the entertainment and business worlds will help evaluate the auditions, performances and sales skills of each individual applying for their respective positions at the new flagship location.

Toy Soldiers: An FAO Schwarz Toy Soldier will perform the duties of a whimsical and theatrical greeter, welcoming our guests as they enter and exit the store, creating engaging and lasting memories. You will participate and host Flagship store activities such as our Daily Opening Ceremony in front of our store in the Plaza, Story Time Tea, In-store Parades, Guided FAO Schwarz VIP Tours, Breakfast with a Toy Soldier, Ice-Skating with a Toy Soldier, and other philanthropic events offsite.
Toy Ambassador: Toy Ambassadors are our toy experts, our team of dynamic sales associates who will assist customers while always maintaining a whimsical and theatrical character. This role will also involve demonstrating a specific product or line of toys, performing live interactive toy demonstrations that surprise and delight our guests. This role will also participate and host store activities such as: Dancing on the FAO Piano, In-store Parades, Costumed Character roles (Astronaut, Patrick & Penelope, Nurse/Doctor, RC Car Mechanic, Alex Spa Stylist, Melissa & Doug FAO Mart Grocer, etc.). A Toy Ambassador’s primary responsibility is to ensure that every guest has a whimsical, world-class shopping experience where their needs are met every time.
FAO Schwarz Baby Doll Adoption Nurse and Doctor: Have you ever seen a child’s eyes light up when they hold their first baby doll? Our team of caring and dedicated Nurses and Doctors will walk each guest though the steps of the baby doll adoption process by helping them choose the perfect baby doll to bring home and welcome into their family. Our team of dedicated Nurses and Doctors will teach these new mommies and daddies how to care for and love their new baby doll.
FAO Schwarz R/C Car Mechanic: Want to make your own race control car? Well our team of hard-working and engaging FAOMechanics can show you how! This team will help our guests choose, create, and build their very own remote control car piece-by-piece by picking the body style, color, wheels, and designs.
FAO Piano Dancer: If you are a skilled dancer and can play the piano you are one “step” above the rest! Our FAO Piano Dancers will be skilled Toy Ambassadors who have the desire to perform their product demonstrations while dancing and playing fun songs on our oversized FAO Piano! You will teach guests of all ages and skill levels how to dance and play songs on our FAO Piano, while making them as comfortable as possible throughout the experience. You may also perform grand shows with other piano dancers throughout the year in front of large audiences!
Toy Tech: Toy Techs are our inventory experts, our team of highly-skilled inventory associates who work behind-the-scenes in our “toy workshop” getting our products unloaded from the trucks, received in our workshop, and delivered to our excited guests on the sales floor. These Toy Techs will also help our guests in the store when they need to ring up a sale, explore a new experience, or understand how a toy works. Whether carrying out important duties in our toy workshop or driving sales and customer service in the store, our Toy Techs are always ready to help when needed!
