Audition Notice for The Adobe Theater’s Production of
Dames at Sea
A Musical Comedy
(A parody, and homage, to the Gold Diggers movie musicals of the 1930’s)
Performance dates: August 1, 2014 – August 24, 2014
Rehearsals to begin the week of June 16th
Director: Robin Lane / Choreographer Karen Byers
Audition dates and times at The Adobe Theater:
Saturday June 7th, Vocal and movement auditions from 1 – 5p
- Prepare a song no longer than 16 bars, no longer than 75 sec.
(Do not prepare a song from Dames at Sea).
- Bring sheet music in your key. (An accompanist will be provided – noa capella, please.)
- If you have tap shoes, bring them. (If tap shoes aren’t readily available, wear shoes which will allow you to move easily and well.)
Sunday June 8th, Callbacks: Cold readings from the script, 7– 10p
Dance auditions at AUX DOG (3011 Monte Vista Blvd. NE)
Saturday June 14th, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Bring tap shoes, if available.
- (If tap shoes aren’t readily available, wear shoes which will allow you to move easily in order to execute the tap steps well.)

Sunday June 15th, 1 – 5 PM Be prepared to read, move, dance, sing
Characters (based on those portrayed in 1930’s movie musicals):
Mona Kent (Female; alto; age range, 27 – 38): Temperamental Broadway Star
Joan (Female; mezzo; age range, 18 – 26): A gum-smackin’, cigarette-smoking chorus girl who’s “been around the block a few times”
Hennesey (Male, baritone; age range, 30 – 50+): A Broadway director
Ruby (Female; mezzo-soprano; age range, 18 – 27): Stage-struck girl from Utah
Dick (Male; tenor; age range, 21 – 32): A sailor and ambitious songwriter
Lucky (Male; baritone; age range, 20 – 30): Dick’s “sidekick,” also a sailor and Joan’s ex-boyfriend
The Captain (Male; baritone; age range, 30 – 50+): A ship’s captain – and Mona Kent’s former lover
Trixie, Bubbles, Ginger (Female; age range, 18 – 30): 3 cabaret singers NB: Hennesey and The Captain may be played by one actor (TBD)
