August 2012, St. Charles, IL - FVR Performing Arts Academy is thrilled to offer an old classic and a new experience. On August 26 - 27, they will hold open auditions for both the Fall 2012 FVR Kids Mainstage Musical, Into The Woods Jr., and their new advanced high school and college program, Black Box Theater Experience, showcasing famed musical Chicago. Advanced Level Class, Black Box Theatre Experience:Chicago
The FVR Performing Arts Academy is ready to take the educational experience up a notch, by introducing professional training for high school and college students in the style of black box theatre. What is black box theatre? It's a presentational style that distills the visuals to highlight the capabilities of the performers. With little to no set and minimal costumes and props, it's up to the actors to spark the audience's imagination. Every professional actor learns this style, and most professional actors in Chicago are still performing in this fashion.
Excited for this new opportunity, Director Tracy Whiteside remarked, "The purpose is to allow this older age group to continue their professional training and to perform more challenging, mature material."
As part of this new material, the Black Box program will premier with scenes and musical numbers from the hit show, Chicago, concluding with free showcases for the community.
This is an audition-only program for experienced performers. Auditions are Sunday, August 26 from 3:00-5:00pm, or Monday, August 27 from 7:00-9:00pm, at Pheasant Run Resort (4051 E. Main St., St. Charles, IL). Bring an 8 x 10 headshot attached to a proper actor's resume. In addition to a 1 minute monologue, also prepare and memorize 16 bars of a song from a similar style show. Bring sheet music-an accompanist will be provided. Do not bring CDs or sing a song from the show. Singing a cappella is not recommended. Be prepared to dance with proper shoes and clothing. Kids Mainstage Musical: Into The Woods Jr.
The FVR Performing Arts Academy invites kids grades 2 - 5 to audition for the Kids Mainstage Musical performance class of Into The Woods Jr, the young-students-version of the sophisticated Sondheim treatment of favorite Brothers Grimm fairy tales.
Auditions will be held Sunday, August 26 from 12:00-2:00pm and on Monday, August 27 from 5:00-7:00pm. Please provide an 8 x 10 headshot attached to a proper actor's resume. Prepare a 1-minute-or-less monologue along with 16 bars of music. Bring a CD with backing tracks only--no vocals. Do not bring sheet music or sing a song from the show. Singing a cappella is not recommended. Be prepared to dance with proper shoes and clothing. Newcomers are strongly encouraged to enroll in a class prior to auditioning for an advanced program.
