BILLY ELLIOT - The White Theatre/Coterie Theatre

The White Theatre at the Jewish Community Center announces regional search for Billy Elliot!

Wanted: a teen or pre-teen boy who can sing and dance to “star” in The White Theatre/Coterie Theatre co-production of the musical “BILLY ELLIOT”!

The Jewish Community Center’s White Theatre is holding general auditions for the role of “Billy” on Sunday, Sept. 22, for its 2020 summer production of the Broadway musical. Two young actors will be chosen to split the role during the 14-performance run (June 27-July 26). Each “Billie” will receive a $1,500 scholarship to further the actors’ future arts education.

Based on the film of the same name, BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL is set in an English town during the miners’ strike of 1984-85. The story follows Billy’s journey from the boxing ring to ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that unites his family, inspires his community and changes his life forever. BILLY ELLIOT features music by Elton John. Jerry Jay Cranford, who directed last summer’s highly successful J-Coterie Theatre co-production of NEWSIES, will oversee this high-energy musical.

Those auditioning must make an appointment through The White Theatre’s Production Stage Manager, Megan Segars at
megans@thejkc.org; auditions are 1-5 p.m. and space is limited. Audition videos may also be submitted via email to Segars. Boys auditioning must possess strong tap and jazz training with some understanding of ballet technique. Each boy must prepare the song Electricity from the show. Music will be emailed once an audition appointment is made. No dialects are needed at auditions.

The director is seeking boys whose voice has not changed, with a top vocal range of C5 and bottom range of E3.
