The Arvada Center announces auditions for the musical, A Man of No Importance

Arvada CO - The Arvada Center will hold auditions for the musical, A Man of No Importance at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., on February 9 and 10, 2015. Callbacks are scheduled for February 19. The Arvada Center production will be directed by Arvada Center Artistic Producer Rod A. Lansberry with musical direction by David Nehls and choreography by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck.

Adult Principal Auditions:

Colorado Principal auditions are on February 9 and 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. Call the Arvada Center Box Office at
720-898-7200 to schedule an appointment time. Please do not contact the production staff to schedule an appointment. Actors must be 18 years & older to audition.

General Audition Requirements:

Experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Good movement abilities are required. See the character breakdown (below) for specifics on available roles. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars from a song appropriate to the style of show. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Recorded music or a cappella audition will eliminate casting consideration. A current headshot and résumé are required. Audio and video submissions will not be considered. Equity members must have a current equity ID card. This is an Equity LORT B production, non-equity actors will be considered. Individuals of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds are needed and encouraged to audition for all roles. All roles will require an Irish dialect.

New York Auditions:

Wojcik/Seay Casting will coordinate the New York City auditions, to be held on February 16, 2015. To be considered for a New York audition, mail a hard copy of your headshot and résumé and indicate the role you are interested in (if known) to the following address:

Rehearsal and Performance Dates:

Rehearsals for A Man of No Importance begin on April 7, 2015. The production opens on April 28and runs through May 17, 2015. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

Character Breakdown

ALL ROLES REQUIRE IRISH DIALECT

ADELE Female, (Range: C4 - F5) To play 20 - 25 yrs.; A girl new to Alfie's bus route who he thinks will be perfect for his play. She is a young, sweet, small-town girl who is wise beyond her years. A shy beauty, newly arrived in Dublin.

ALFIE Male, (Range: A2 - E4) To play 35 - 45 yrs.; Average looks and build, he is a dreamer who idolizes Oscar Wilde. He is in love with Robbie but wrestles with his sexuality throughout the story.

BALDY Male, (Range: B2 - G4) To play 50 - 70 yrs.; Also known as James Michael O'Shea, he is the resident stage manager at St. Imelda's. He lost his wife early in life.

BRETON BERET Male (Range: A2 - C4) To play 20 - 35 yrs.; Seduces Alfie in order to beat him up for being gay.

CARNEY Male, (Range: A2 - G4) To play 45 - 60 yrs.; The local butcher who is the usual star of Alfie's productions and boasts an ego about it. The most socially and morally conservative member of the community. Doubles as Oscar Wilde.

ERNIE LALLY Male, (Range: B2 - G4) To play 25 - 40 yrs.; The company set designer.

LILLY BYRNE Female, (Range: E3 - C5) To play 35 - 45 yrs.; Alfie's sister who cares deeply for him, but finds him odd. She is socially and morally conservative.

MISS CROWE Female, (Range: B3 - A5) To play 40 - 60 yrs.; The company costume designer.

MRS. CURTIN Female, (Range: A3 - D5) To play 30 - 40 yrs.; An actor in the company and the choreographer. Requires some Tap ability.

MRS. PATRICK Female, (Range: G3 - E5) To play 35 - 45 yrs.; Robbie's married lover and the mother of three children with a secret life.

RASHER FLYNN Male, (Range: A2 - E4) To play 25 - 35 yrs.; The company technician. Heavy smoker and former All-Ireland gymnast,

ROBBIE Male, (Range: C3 - A4) To play 25 - 30 yrs.; Alfie's coworker and friend. He is charming, honest and likeable. Ability to play an Irish instrument a plus but not required.

KENNY / CARSON Male (Baritone) To play 50 – 60 yrs.; Father, Priest of the Parish, doubles as Carson the bus inspector.

MRS. GRACE / KITTY FARELLY Female, (Mezzo)To play 35 – 45 yrs.; Homemaker and an actor in the troupe, doubles as Kitty Farelly.
