Well, DISENCHANTED, a new musical comedy brought to you by writer and composer Dennis T. Giacino, addresses this question exactly. This production introduces the honest voices of “disenchanted” princesses, taking us through their journey as they attempt to take back their power. With wit, cleverness, and fast-paced humor in every song DISENCHANTED allows the audience to hear the princesses’ strong and empowered voices. In DISENCHANTED Giacino creates a burlesque vaudeville show of catchy and contagious songs that is primarily about self-acceptance, battling the out of date messages little girls have been given by society for centuries in terms of who they ought to grow up to be. Rather than perpetuating the dainty, boy-crazy ideal of femininity, Giacino turns these fairytale characters into real women with real voices which need to be heard.
