HISTORY ALIVE! The Revolution Comes To Jersey City Speranza Theatre Company is proud to present the History Alive written by Jennie Contuzzi and Directed by Mikaela Kafka. History Alive is an original historical play in collaboration with JC Cultural Affairs playing at The Apple Tree House, 298 Academy St, Jersey City, NJ 07306. Just a short walk from the Journal Square PATH and Transportation Center.

Join us for performances on September 7th @ 6:30pm & 8pm, September 8th @ 11am, 1pm, 5pm, & 7pm, September 9th @ 11am, 1pm, 5pm, & 7pm. All performances are FREE and are family friendly. This is a 30-minute, site-specific show. The audience will move throughout the house with the actors.


"One thing that stood out to me in my research was how divided the county was," explains writer, Jennie Contuzzi. "Many residents supported Britain in the war and even within families there were deep divides."

About Speranza Theatre Company

Founded in 2008, Speranza Theatre Company is a women's theatre company based in Jersey City, NJ. Speranza subscribes to an actor-director-playwright collaborative approach to story-telling based on honesty and truth, which centers on women's issues and provides opportunities for women to share their voices. A new member of New Jersey Theatre Alliance - an organization of professional NJ theatres - Speranza presents original plays and educational programming in Hudson County.

Written by Jennie Contuzzi, Associate Artistic Director

A graduate of the Playwriting program at the New School for Drama, and is a member of MCC Theater's Playwrights' Coalition. Her play, Body Language received its World Premiere with The Active Theater in June 2012. Other plays include My Father's Son (NY International Fringe Festival) and Love, Me (Margaret) (Emerging Artists Theatre). Speranza has produced several of her plays: Women Rising, Stories of Hope at Hudson County Community College and Art House Productions; Unveiling Liberty at The Barrow Mansion; Millicent The Magnificent, at the Loews Theatre and The Barrow Mansion; and her newest play, Foodies, will be workshopped this fall with Speranza.

Mikaela is honored to work with Speranza once again. Along with History Alive, she has directed Summer Theatre Camp (2017 & 2018) in addition to Fall and Spring mainstage productions of Women Rising, Stories of Hope at Hudson County Community College, and Unveiling Liberty at The Barrow Mansion.
