Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre Receives Curtain Call Award

By:

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, a professional theatre ensemble in residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, was recently honored by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance at its Curtain Call Awards for the company's 20-year history and for its achievements in bringing the community together with its focus on telling life-affirming stories relevant to the lives we live today. At the November 2 event, Dreamcatcher also received a Resolution from the Union county Board of Chosen Freeholders recognizing its contribution to the cultural life of the region.

Dreamcatcher has a core company of professional local actors who perform contemporary work that entertains and challenges, and has at its heart a belief in the essential goodness of people. Also central to its mission is the enrichment of young people's lives through theatre, both through hands-on experience and through educational programs. Dreamcatcher's focus is on deepening the experience of all their patrons by supplementing the performances with personal contact through receptions, talkbacks and interactive programs.

The company seeks to expose theatregoers and students to ideas and lives like and unlike their own, with the intention of awakening their imaginations and creating empathy for others. Dreamcatcher's annual season consists of mainstage productions, improv comedy shows, a holiday variety show, new play readings, cabarets, and educational and outreach programs for students and seniors.

Dreamcatcher is a member of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, the service organization that unites all professional theatres in the state. Since its founding in 1981, the NJTA has grown from a membership of five to 35 professional theaters whose joint efforts have facilitated the growth of educational programs, financial support, and public access to live theater throughout the state of New Jersey. At this year's Curtain Call Awards, held at Kean University, other honorees were Luna Stage of West Orange and Premiere Stages of Union, as well as Natalie Watson, Esq., the outgoing president of the NJTA's Board of Trustees.

Dreamcatcher's performances are at The Oakes Center, located at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit. The facility is wheelchair accessible.
