Joseph Kekuku and the Voice of the Steel Guitar tells the true story of a young Native Hawaiian student who, in the late 1800s, discovered a new sound by sliding a piece of steel across his guitar strings. Written by Moses Goods in collaboration with Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings and directed by Eric Johnson, the production follows Joseph Kekuku's journey from Hawai'i to stages around the world, tracing how his invention helped shape blues, country, and rock and roll. The show features live Hawaiian slide guitar and stunning projections, and is recommended for ages 7 and up.
