This Southern Theater signature event features world premieres from six of the Twin Cities' finest dancers and recipients of the 2008 and 2009 McKnight Artist Fellowships for Dancers. As part of their awarded fellowship, the Southern Theater has commissioned a choreographer of each dancer's choosing to create a new work expressly for them.

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today the fall 2009 honorees from among 39 Minnesota high schools participating in its 2009-10 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. These SpotLight honors recognize students for their individual and group accomplishments in performance and production. The SpotLight program supports the work of Twin Cities' high schools that present musical theatre-from classics including Fiddler on the Roof to the adaptation of Dickens' The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Director Joe Dowling today announced that the Guthrie Theater has secured the rights for one of this season's most talked-about plays. Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker just ended its sold-out run at Playwrights Horizons in New York and the Guthrie will mount a production in the Dowling Studio from May 20 through June 13 (opening May 22), under the direction of Benjamin McGovern.

Steve Martin, the multi-talented Grammy and Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian who has recently reached new pinnacles as a musician, will perform 'An Evening of Bluegrass and Banjo' with the Steep Canyon Rangers at Hennepin Theatre Trust's State Theatre, Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 7 p.m. His first bluegrass album, 'The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Bango,' was released in May 2009 by Rounder Records, where it stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Album chart for 12 weeks. 'The Crow' was also awarded the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album (Vocal or Instrumental) in January 2010.

Beginning June 11, the Department of Concerts and Lectures and the University of Minnesota Summer Session Office will host 24 free, outdoor concerts that showcase local talent and offer a variety of eclectic music from various cultures and genres. All concerts will be played on the Northrop Plaza from noon to 1:00 pm, with the exception of five evening shows. The evening concerts are an exciting new addition this summer and will be hosted on the plaza from 7:00 to 8:00 pm with bands The Alarmists, Maria Isa, Innocent, Charanga Tropical, and Alison Scott. The Playwrights' Center of Minneapolis named the recipients of the 2010-11 McKnight National Residency and Commission (Taylor Mac), McKnight Advancement Grants (Mat Smart and Deborah Stein), and McKnight Theater Artist Fellowships (Annie Enneking, Masanari Kawahara, and Robert Rosen) on June 7, 2010. The three programs provide nearly $150,000 in grants and artistic support funds and are underwritten by the Minneapolis-based McKnight Foundation.
