Chanhassen Dinner Theater Presents ALL SHOOK UP, 8/6-1/29

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is thrilled to produce another new show to its Main Stage -- ALL SHOOK UP! Called the "best retro rock show since Grease," ALL SHOOK UP opens on the Main Stage to previews from August 6 -19, with grand opening festivities on Friday, August 20.

ALL SHOOK UP enjoyed its Broadway run at the Palace Theatre from February through October 2005, with US and European tours following in 2006 and 2009. Coined a "do NOT miss"event, ALL SHOOK UP is another in Broadway's series of very popular and engaging "jukebox musical" hits (Mamma Mia, Movin' Out, Jersey Boys). This one, however, is inspired by and features the music of Elvis Presley and made complete with a delightful romantic comedy written by Joe DiPietro ( I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; The Thing About Me; and The Kiss at City Hall) <based on the beloved William Shakespeare comedy Twelfth Night.>

Set in 1955, ALL SHOOK UP is about a hip-swiveling, guitar-playing, blue-suede-shoe-wearing roustabout who comes to a dreary small middle-America town (where excitement has been outlawed by the mayor), and falls for a sweet young local girl with big dreams of travelling the open road for the more exciting big city life. The mysterious roustabout rides into town and puts a coin in a jukebox that hasn't worked in long time. He raps it on the side and miraculously the music starts to play, and a whole lot of people start falling in love -- with the wrong person!

ALL SHOOK UP is a light, very funny comedy of romance and dreams based around the songs of Elvis Presley. The songs included in the two act musical are: "Love Me Tender," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Roustabout," "One Night With You," "C'mon Everybody," "Follow That Dream," "Hound Dog," "Teddy Bear," "That's All Right," "Surrender," "Devil in Disguise," "It's Now or Never," "Don't Be Cruel," "Let Yourself Go," "Can't Help Falling in Love," "All Shook Up," "It Hurts Me," "A Little Less Conversation," "The Power of My Love," "I Don't Want To," "Jailhouse Rock," "There's Always Me," "If I Can Dream," "Fools Fall in Love," "Burning Love" and "Blue Suede Shoes." Elvis Presley is regarded as one of the twentieth century's leading popular culture figures. Elvis began his singing career in 1954 and by late 1956 he was an international sensation. He literally shaped rock music as we know it today. He starred in some 33 films, made TV history and sold a record-breaking billion records. Elvis earned gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards for 148 different albums and single records - more than any other artist. On August 16, 1977, Elvis died at his Memphis home, Graceland.

Artistic Director Michael Brindisi is pleased to be directing this newer musical. He stated, "Our audiences, young and old, will have a great time with ALL SHOOK UP. Of course the music is Elvis, Elvis Elvis, and everyone loves that, but beyond the music, the story is fresh, sweet and very funny. No one will walk away without having had a terrific time. This is just good fun."

Brindisi collaborates with his creative team of artists. Andrew Cooke serves as musical director, and Tamara Kangas Erickson as choreographer. Designers: Nayna Ramey for scenery; Rich Hamson for costumes; Sue ElLen berger for lighting; Russ Haynes for sound and Susan Magnuson for hair/makeup. Production Stage Manager is Robin Macgregor.
