The Golem of Havana at Miami New Drama

The Golem of Havana marks the 10th Anniversary production of Miami New Drama, returning to the stage that started it all a decade after its original premiere. Set in late-1950s Havana, the musical follows Rebecca, a young Jewish girl who turns to the mythical Golem of Jewish folklore as her family navigates poverty, political unrest, and the final days of the Batista regime. Featuring music by Saloman Lerner, lyrics by Len Schiff, and a book by Michel Hausmann, the show blends klezmer, mambo, and bolero as Jewish legend and Cuban revolution collide onstage. Inspired by Hausmann's own family history, the musical asks what it means to be a savior when no one else will come.
