Miami New Drama adapts classic play ANTIGONE for thousands of students and public performances.MIAMI, FL - Miami New Drama will tour a version of Sophocles ANTIGONE adapted by Tony Award winner Gregory Mosher to twenty Miami-Dade County public schools and two free public venues. Public viewing opportunities will be at Lummus Park on Miami Beach (March 3) and the Miami Design District (February 23). The play will be performed at XXXX schools for over 5000 students. A timeless classic play, ANTIGONE was written at a time of national fervor in Ancient Greece. It exposes the dangers of the absolute ruler to whom few will speak freely about their true opinions, and who makes the error of condemning Antigone. All performances will be followed by dialogue on the issues of the play concerning central ideas of civilization, the rights of women, and basic rights given to both the living and the dead.The cast consists of a professional company of diverse actors including individuals last seen in Our Town at Miami New Drama, Steve Gladstone as Tiresias, Robert Strain as Kreon, and Thallis Santesteban as Antigone. Characters are rounded out with Ismene played by Cherise James, Hamon played by Anthony Michael Martinez, Chorus played by Dave Corey and Guard played by Zack Myers. More than half of the actors are members of Actors Equity Association. Peter Romano, a Syrian-American artist with a BFA from NYU-Tisch School of the Arts and a MFA from Columbia University is directing the production. He was previously seen in the Miami New Drama production of Terror at the Colony Theatre.
