People magazine called Jane Monheit "jazz's next sultry sweetie and now she's officially arrived. With a lush voice that evokes early Streisand, jazzy Bebel Gilberto and cool Cassandra Wilson, Jane Monheit joins Diana Krall as one of the most highly touted female jazz singers today. She has garnered critical acclaim since the release of her celebrated debut album, Never Neverland, and has since become a household name in the jazz and pop world. Monheit's latest album, Surrender, features pop songs and standards woven together with dreamy bossa nova rhythms. From a stunning version of Moon River to a re-invention of Stevie Wonder's Overjoyed and the Sergio Mendes Bossa Nova smash, So Many Stars, Monheit shows why audiences can't get enough of her velvet voice. She has collaborated with artists Ron Carter and Michael Buble and Sergio Mendes himself accompanies her on Surrender. Since 1998, when Theolonius Monk Institute vocal competition judges couldn't place her sound but rewarded her astonishing vocals as first runner-up, she's still defying categorization, dazzling audiences wherever she goes.
