'DANIEL'S HUSBAND,' a new dramedy by award-winning playwright Michael McKeever, will be presented as a Staged Reading for one night only, at 7:30 PM on Monday, January 12th, 2015, in Lynn University's Wold Performing Arts Center, as part of 'Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series.'

The tale of a contemporary gay couple who are challenged with the ramifications of not getting officially married, 'DANIEL'S HUSBAND' explores the consequences of accepting the limitations defined by society, and the results of not demanding the rights due to every human being.

Directed by Andy Rogow, the cast includes Alex Alvarez, Antonio Amadeo, Kristian Kikic, Barbara Bradshaw and Larry Buzzeo.

A full production of this play will be mounted May 28th of this year by Island City Stage, performing at Empire Stage in Fort Lauderdale, where Rogow is the Artistic Director.

"It's terrific to be a part of a program like this at Lynn University, that allows us to explore a play before we have to go into rehearsal for our upcoming production," says Rogow. "And we'll get audience reaction and feedback months in advance of it."

McKeever says he is "happy to be returning to Lynn University as part of this series," where his new play 'FINDING MONA LISA' was first developed as a staged reading two years ago. It will receive its first full production later this year in Phoenix, AZ.

McKeever's plays include 'CLARK GABLE SLEPT HERE,' 'MELT,' 'SUITE SURRENDER,' 'MOSCOW,' 'SOUTH BEACH BABYLON,' 'CHARLIE COX RUNS WITH SCISSORS,' 'STUFF,' and '37 POSTCARDS.' He is also an award-winning actor and designer, and co-founder of Zoetic Stage theatre company in Miami.

Jan McArt, the "First Lady of Florida Theatre," is in charge of theatre development at Lynn University, where this fully staged reading will be the first in a series of staged readings presented this fall/winter/spring as part of 'Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series,' to develop new plays and musicals by Florida playwrights.

An ambitious, award-winning program, this play reading series gives playwrights the chance to work with a cast and a director for six days - rehearsing, re-writing, rehearsing, rewriting. Then, at the end of that time, they present their new, polished, reworked piece to the public in performance, with actors up-on-their-feet, scripts in hand, employing minimal costumes, sets, lighting, etc., to aid them in the presentation of the new work. Upcoming shows to be presented in this 2014-15 play reading series at Lynn University include: 'OUR TIME' - a new musical with book and lyrics by Dan Clancy and music by Lynn Portas, directed by Wayne Rudisill, March 9th, 2015; and 'MIRA' - a new play by Michael Leeds, directed by John Manzelli, April 20th, 2015.

Tickets for these Staged Readings are $10 each. For more information, call 561-237-9000 or go to www.lynn.edu/tickets.
