2006-2007 Season Schedule

FAHRENHEIT 451 by Ray Bradbury

October 14th-November 19th

Southeastern Premiere

Adapted by the author from his classic novel--a futuristic tale about a civilization where all written word is forbidden and where firefighters are paid to burn books instead of fighting fires.

The Florida Center for the Literary Arts selected Bradbury's masterpiece for "The Big Read" this year, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts.

"Frightening in its implications!  Mr. Bradbury's account of this insane world, which bears alarming resemblances to our own, is fascinating!" ~New York Times

ROMANCE by David Mamet

December 30th-January 28th

Southeastern Premiere

The Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright's uproarious, take-no-prisoners courtroom comedy that gleefully lampoons everyone from lawyers and judges, to Arabs and Jews, to gays and chiropractors.

"A wild ride!  For fans of Mamet at his most joyfully vicious, it's everything you ever wanted!" ~New York Magazine

"It made me weep with delight!  Romance is funny!  Extremely funny!"

~Wall Street Journal

FAT PIG by Neil LaBute

February 24th-March 25th

Southeastern Premiere

How many insults can you hear before you have to stand up and defend the woman you love—who is bright, funny, sexy--and happens to be plus-sized.  From the author of The Shape of Things and This Is How It Goes.

"The most emotionally engaging and unsettling of Mr. LaBute's plays!"

~New York Times

"Beautifully written, hilarious!  Astute and up-to-the-minute relevant!" ~New York Post

"The most legitimately provocative and polarizing playwright at work today!" ~New York Magazine

GOLDA'S BALCONY by William Gibson

April 21st-May 20th

The rise of Golda Meir from impoverished Russian schoolgirl to Prime Minister of Israel is one of the most amazing stories of the 20th Century. Embroiled in the Yom Kippur war of 1973, she is involved in crises large and small—while pondering her most difficult decision yet: whether to utilize nuclear weapons against Egypt and Syria.

"True, historically accurate!  A jaw-dropping scenario!  Colossally charged with tension and consequence!" ~New York Times

"Everyone should see Golda's Balcony!" ~ Elie Wiesel, Nobel Prize Winner

SMUT a new play by Alice Jay ~ in collaboration with Joseph Adler

June 16th-July 15th

World Premiere

The Gilded Age in Old New York.  The architect of repression has outlawed abortion, contraception, books.  Three women—a reformer, an immigrant, a wife—dare to defy him.  Inspired by the real-life collision of sexual educator, Ida Craddock—and America's national censor, Anthony Comstock.  When one man decides what the laws should be, liberties are trampled, voices are silenced.  There is no choice.

LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE by Martin McDonagh

August 11th-September 9th

Southeastern Premiere

The gleeful, gory and incredibly original play about an Irish militant seeking to avenge his pet cat's death.  He loves his cat more than life itself, and someone is going to pay.  The Broadway smash hit by the author of The Pillowman.

"Cunningly constructed, deeply and intensely felt, bitterly blood curdling and breathtakingly funny!" ~London Times

"Appallingly entertaining! Two fast hours of hit-and-run traffic on the stage!"

 ~New York Times
