Donna Carbone, the Managing Director of the Burt Reynolds Institute, announced that she is looking for eight to 10 story tellers for the second Tongues a'Wagging - Community Storytelling Event. Back by popular demand, this production follows closely on the success of the February Valentine's Day show.

Tongues a'Wagging is a unique opportunity for residents of Palm Beach County to tell their personal stories to an eager audience. The topic for the April event is How a Stroke of Luck Changed My Life. It will be held on Saturday evening, April 13, 2019, at 7 pm. The cost for tickets is $20.00 and will include a talk back with the storytellers at the end of the evening. There is no charge to submit a story for this event.

In a recent interview, Carbone said, "We had standing room only for the first Tongues a'Wagging. The audience loved sharing in the intimate details of the storytellers lives. From the first speaker, a 61-year-old man who has been paralyzed from the neck down for 45 years to a former priest who wanted to marry and have a family, people sat on the edges of their chairs so as not to miss a word. Ten stories, each different and yet the same in that they all expressed how love had impacted their lives."

To be a part of the April event, which will undergo a juried selection process, potential participants must submit their 1200 word essay on the topic (How a Stroke of Luck Changed My Life) no later than March 16th.

"I chose Luck has a topic for the evening because people's interpretations of luck are so very different. Good luck, bad luck... lives are changed for better or worse depending on whether people see themselves as winners or loser," Carbone said. The stories must be true and they must be personal. Storytellers must write about themselves - not about someone else. All stories will be edited for time and content. They will be rehearsed prior to the show so that even the most novice public speaker can have their moment in the spotlight without their knees knocking.

For rules and regulations, send an email marked SUBMISSION: TONGUES A'WAGGING to: briftfinancedirector@comcast.net.

A DO and DON'T list will be sent to you which will explain exactly what a story must include. The deadline for submissions is March 16th. Tickets also go on sale on March 16th.

The Institute's theater is small... only 40 seats... and Carbone said attendees at the first Tongues a'Wagging are already clamoring for tickets. She advises people call early to reserve their space.

For more information and directions, contact Donna Carbone at briftfinancedirector@comcast.net or call 561 743-9955.

The Burt Reynolds Institute is located at: 115 U.S. Highway One, North Palm Beach, Florida. Carbone advises NOT using GPS. Directions will be sent upon request to anyone not familiar with the location.
