In celebration of Leonard Bernstein's 100th Birthday, the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Music Department and Opera Workshop under the direction of Andres Ramirez are proud to present a production of the 1974 Hal Prince version of Candide. This first successful edition of Candide ran on Broadway for two years and is now reimagined for LACHSA's unique blackbox space. Featuring a cast of 20 LACHSA vocalists, this streamlined version of the show (originally one act but presented here in two) is filled with raucous laughs and some of Bernstein's most romantic tunes. Come see this gem of a musical as presented by the #1 ranked public arts high school in the nation. Music by Leonard Bernstein. Book based on Voltaire by Hugh Wheeler (Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music), Lyrics by John Latouche, with addition lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Richard Wilbur. Directed by Andres Ramirez.
