The Importance of Being EarnestA Trivial Comedy for Serious People Filmed At the Helen Borgers Theatre, 4250 Atlantic, Long Beach, in Bixby KnollsThe second fully staged production in our 2021 Season: Back to Basics In his country estate, Jack is the responsible guardian of Cecily, but when he needs time away, he lies by saying her he must go and visit his wayward brother Ernest, which is the name he takes when partying. He falls in love with Gwendolyn who agrees to marry him because she loves the name, Ernest. Then when Gwendolyns cousin Algernon pretends to be Ernest and meets Cecily, she falls in love with this Ernest. It looks like everyone is in love with Ernest...if only he were real.This is LBSC's eleventh streaming production. Our cast and crew worked online and then briefly in the theatre with a long and sometimes neverending list of protocols to keep everyone safe to bring this new production to our patrons. This streaming version has been made possible in part by the grant from the RuMBa foundation. This program will be made available to educators and students as part of our new education department here at the Long Beach Shakespeare Company.
