The Fight of Fancy at Audubon Center at Debs Park

Los Angeles-based Blue13 Dance Company presents The Fight of Fancy, a site-specific, roving outdoor live dance and literature experience at Audubon Center at the Ernest E. Debs Parks. The Fight of Fancy, produced by South Asian American visionary producer Achinta S. McDaniel, is the premiere of the company’s new Book Club series, which brings together literary conversation with immersive and interactive dance performance. Blue13’s program specialist, Seema Sundaresh, shares that “each upcoming book club engagement will vary in response to new themes and stories shaped by the location, changing audiences, and, of course, the books selected.” The company even provides a suggested (though not required) reading list for The Fight of Fancy: Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Cindi M. Alvitre’s Waa’aka’: The Bird Who Fell in Love with the Sun. Sundaresh notes that keen-eyed observers may notice that Easter eggs from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland may turn up as well. The piece invites and incites conversation about childhood, resistance, community, and freedom. The audience is asked to bring a sense of curiosity and adventure as they will be pulled into performance and dialogue throughout the beautiful grounds of the Audubon Center. 

The Fight of Fancy premieres Saturday, March 21 at 4:45 p.m. Doors open at 4:15 p.m. Multiple ticket pricing options, ranging from $5 - $50, are available to accommodate a wide range of financial capacities.
