Space Company at The Stray Theater

“Office Space” in a boardroom with “I Saw the TV Glow.” An interactive satire about a megacorporation that considers itself to be a family.

Hi Team!! Welcome to your first day at Space Company!! Through constant innovation, growth, and profitability, you will help us answer the Canonical Question aka CQ (we LOVE acronyms, practically our own language, hahahaha!): “What do we do after we destroy that?” :) As your new manager – but please, call me “Mom”, because we are not just a company, we are a family - I am here to love and nurture you to be the most productive Babygirl you can be! Together, we will help Space Company achieve our singular, noble goal: to be The Best In The Universe! Looking forward to orientation :D Best, Mom :)

"Mom", a middle manager at Space Company, welcomes her newest cohort of new hires, "Babygirls", on their first day. Babygirls are invited to participate and ask Mom questions along the way (because Space Company values transparency!).

Audience members are greeted with a warm, enthusiastic welcome from their new Mom on their first day at Space Company. Mom orients her new Babygirls to the ins and outs of Space Company culture, asking for insights and questions along the way, (because Space Company values transparency!).

Space Company addresses late-stage capitalism, the influence of a culture of patriarchy, and the cult-y nature of institutions; it's up to the audience to decide who or what their own "Space Company" is. Space Company premiered at the 2026 Hollywood Fringe Festival and had a second run at the 2026 Minnesota Fringe Festival, where it won the "Lust for (Fringe) Life" Staff Award.

Written and performed by Emma Irene Olson. Directed by Maura Mannle. Developed in “Playing Yourself”, The Elysian’s solo show devising workshop, led by Artistic Director Jacquelyn Landgraf.
