DEFIANTLY JONI: A Singer/Songwriter Bares Her Soul at Mark Taper Forum

DEFIANTLY JONI is an intimate tribute to Joni Mitchell's unique genius, exploring the cultural milieu and musical streams that fed into her art and poured out of Laurel Canyon into a surplus of other genres and artists. The concert is led by Artistic & Music Director Rachael Worby with vocalists Chris Pierce and Effie Passero, the DC6 Singers Collective, and the MUSE/IQUE Orchestra. The program traces Mitchell's fiercely independent artistry — her stream-of-consciousness songwriting, jazz composition, and singular voice — and her influence on artists including Graham Nash, James Taylor, Carole King, Neil Young, and David Crosby. The production is presented in partnership with Center Theatre Group and sponsored by Classical California.
