Antigone: In the Language of Kings is a production by Latino Theater Company that reimagines Sophocles' ancient Greek tragedy by setting it in pre-conquest Tenochtitlan, Mexico, weaving in pre-Hispanic music, poetry, and Aztec mythology. The adaptation explores themes of loyalty, familial duty, resistance, and the clash between divine law and state authority. The production is directed by Jose Luis Valenzuela and adapted by Evelina Fernández, with costume design by Maria Catarina Copelli, set design by François-Pierre Couture, lighting design by Xinyuan Li, sound design by John Zalewski, music by Christopher Garcia, and projection design by Yee Eun Nam. An ASL-interpreted performance will take place on September 24.
