THE BOOK THAT I'M GOING TO WRITE, BY JUDY GARLAND Comes to Hollywood Fringe Performer Jason Powell is set to bring the world premiere of his solo play The Book That I'm Going to Write, by Judy Garland to the Hollywood Fringe Festival, it was announced today by LadyWatch Productions. Directed by Phillip Fazio, it will run for five performances only at the Ruby Theatre @ The Complex beginning June 1, at 9pm.

Performance dates and times are as follows - Friday 6/1 at 9pm; Saturday 6/9 at 7:30pm; Sunday 6/10 at 7:30pm; Thursday 6/14 at 6pm; Saturday 6/23 at 3pm.

In 1964, following her Oscar-nominated comeback performance in Judgment at Nuremberg and her historic Carnegie Hall concert, the legendary Judy Garland decided to revisit a project she'd abandoned many years before - writing her memoirs. Garland was encouraged to put her thoughts and memories on tape to be transcribed later. The tapes revealed a woman who was seemingly hurt by every person she had ever trusted, all while bringing joy to people the world over through her unparalleled talent, infectious warmth, and indomitable spirit. Faithfully adapted from these long-lost private recordings, performer Jason Powell brings Judy's actual spoken words to life, without spectacle or artifice, just naked honesty. Running time is 60 minutes.

Jason Powell is an actor/singer and co-host of the popular podcast LadyWatch with Ryan & Jason, billed as "the only podcast dedicated to celebrating women over the age of 50." His regional acting credits include Cabaret (Emcee), Urinetown (Bobby Strong), Rent (Mark), Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day (Alexander), Peter and the Wolf (Peter), and A Thousand Cranes (Kenji).

Phillip Fazio's NYC directing credits include Gay Camp (Off-Broadway), Company (St. Bart's Players), Super Ben (Think Theater Project), and The Real Life (Identity Theater Company). Regional directing credits include Follies, City of Angels, Sunday in the Park with George, Ragtime, Cabaret, Proof, Sweeney Todd, The Last Five Years, August: Osage County, and Grey Gardens. Served as assistant director on the Center Theatre Group/Deaf West Theatre production of Pippin as well as West Side Story at the Signature Theatre in Washington, DC. He is an Associate Member of the Stage Director and Choreographers Society and an alumnus of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab.

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers.
