LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCoy Rigby Entertainment invite you to "Seize the Day" as they present the fifth and final show of its 2017-2018 season (and the 40thanniversary of the iconic theatre) with Disney's NEWSIES, book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, musical direction by Brent Crayon and directed and choreographed by Richard J. Hinds. NEWSIES will preview on Friday, June 1, 2018 (with a press opening on Saturday, June 2 at 8pm) and runs through Sunday, June 24, 2018 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.

They delivered the papers, until they made the headlines! NEWSIES, the smash-hit, crowd-pleasing new musical from Disney will ignite the stage as a finale to our 40th Season. Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Choreography, NEWSIES has audiences and critics alike calling it "A MUSICAL WORTH SINGING ABOUT!" (The New York Times). Filled with one heart-pounding number after another, it's a high-energy explosion of song and dance you and your family will never forget!

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST

Richard J. Hinds (Director/Choreographer)is currently the Associate Choreographer for Come From Away on Broadway. He worked on the Broadway productions of Disney's Newsies (Associate Director), Jekyll and Hyde (Associate Director/Choreographer) and Il Divo: A Musical Affair (Assistant Director). He served as the Associate Director/Choreographer for The Public Theatre and London's National Theatre's productions of Here Lies Love.Richard's directing and choreography credits include Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival, Pittsburgh CLO, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, Deaf West, Paper Mill Playhouse, Ogunquit Playhouse, Gateway Playhouse, Flat Rock Playhouse, Capital Repertory Theatre, New Theatre, Macao International Music Festival, 54 Below, RWS & Associates and BCEFA. Richard's television credits include Bring It!, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Macy's Commercial, America's Got Talent, Good Afternoon America (featuring Liza Minnelli) and The Bethenny Show (featuring Coco Austin). Richard's Associate credits include Up Here (La Jolla Playhouse), 9 to 5 (National/International Tours), Disney's High School Musical (National/International Tours), The Last Goodbye, The First Wives Club (The Old Globe), Pippin (CTG and Deaf West), A Wonderful Life (Paper Mill Playhouse), Broadway Under The Stars (NYC & Company), Frankenstein (37 ARTS, Off-Broadway), Drama Desk Awards (Hammerstein Ballroom) and Samsung Unpacked (Radio City Music Hall).

Brent Crayon (Musical Direction) has had the privilege to work with such notable artists as Stephen Schwartz, Daisy Prince, John Caird, Paul Gordon, Robert Longbottom, John Bucchino, and Richard Maltby, Jr. Favorite theatrical productions include Dreamgirlsin Tokyo, Japan, the West Coast premieres of First Date, Songs For a New World andTick, Tick...BOOM!, as well as the world premiere productions of Stephen Schwartz's Snapshots, John Bucchino's It's Only Life, and Bubble Boy, The Musical. An accomplished and multi-faceted musician, Brent has been a featured soloist in ensembles throughout Southern California, including the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Ventura Chamber Orchestra. www.brentcrayon.com

The Cast of NEWSIES will feature: Alex Prakken as "Jack Kelly," Beth Stafford Laird as "Katherine," Josey Montana McCoy as "Davey," Austyn Myers as "Crutchie," Paul Schoeffler as "Joseph Pulitzer," Daebreon Poiema as "Medda Larkin," and Travis Burnett as "Les." The Ensemble will feature (in alphabetical order); Steven Adam Agdeppa, Tatiana Monique Alvarez, Zach Bez, Michael Brian, Doug Carfrae, Patrick Cragin, Steve Gagliastro, Marc Ginsburg, Kyle Goleman, Jesse Graham, Brandon Halvorsen, Michael James, John Massey, Andre Darnell Myers, Nate Odell, Katie Perry, Tanner Richins, Samuel Shea, David Smith, Vinnie Smith and Chris Villain.

The Design Team for NEWSIES is as follows: Scenic Design by David McQuillen Roberson, Fourth Wall Scenic; Lighting Design by Steven Young; Sound Design by Josh Bessom; Costume Design by Travis Grant; Hair/Wig/Makeup Design by Elizabeth Bohks& Props Design by Kevin Williams. The Fight Choreographer is Michael Polak. Casting is by Julia Flores, and the Production Stage Manager is Jill Gold.

ABOUT THE SCHEDULE AND PRICING

NEWSIES will preview on Friday, June 1, 2018 (with a press opening on Saturday, June 2 at 8pm) and runs through Sunday, June 24, 2018 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.

Performances are Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:30pm; Fridays at 8:00pm; Saturdays at 2:00pm & 8:00pm & Sundays at 2:00pm.

There will be an additional performance on Friday, June 22 at 1:00pm.

There will be an Open-Captioned performance on Saturday, June 16 at 2pm and an ASL-interpreted performance on Saturday, June 23 at 2pm. Talkbacks with the cast and creative team will be on Wednesday, June 6 and Wednesday, June 20.
