Bent Not Broken Inspires Community Players To Donate Funds From YOU PASS ME BY To AIDS/HIV Prevention
The Bent Not Broken Inspired Community Players and Friends presents an original stage play titled, "You Passed Me By," a production that focuses on educating the community about AIDS and HIV prevention.
The production is scheduled for December 4, 2009 at 8:00 pm at the Sturges Center for the Fine Arts, located at 780 North ‘E' Street in San Bernardino. Pre-sale tickets are $10, and $15 at the door. The proceeds from the performance will benefit HIV and AIDS
organizations, and assist with providing food for Inland Empire residents living with HIV.
Written and directed by Nosente Uhuti, "You Passed Me By," is a gospel comedy that examines the Black Church's response to HIV/AIDS in the African American community.
The diverse cast consists of local talented singers and dancers who will deliver a powerful mixture of hope, laughter and soul-stirring performances.
Uhuti is a community activist and has been committed to promoting awareness and prevention of HIV and AIDS in the Inland Empire. Uhuti has also been a strong advocate for people living with the disease, and has created a platform to bring their experiences to life through writing and producing plays.
Her ultimate goal is to provide more financial resources for people living with AIDS and HIV. Uhuti stated, "Last year, we were able to provide $3,000 worth of food for our community. This year, we hope to triple that."
Uhuti and the Bent Not Broken Community Players also hope that the play will encourage local church congregations to include HIV and AIDS education in their health programs, and to generate more support from the community for people living with the virus.
