Winter FINEST IN THE CINEMA Series at WHBPAC Returns in Jan 2014
The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center continues its "Rose & Don Ciampa Finest in World Cinema" Series this winter on most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays! Featuring its new state-of-the-art digital cinema projection system, the WHBPAC will screen only the best current release art house, foreign, independent and documentary films that run concurrently at the most prominent film houses in New York City. Tickets are $15 for adults, $9 for students/seniors, and $5 for WHBPAC Film Society members.
The first film to screen this winter is director Zack Clark's heartwarming film White Reindeer on Friday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, January 11 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. As Christmastime approaches, suburban Virginia real-estate agent Suzanne seems to have it all. But after the sudden loss of her husband, secrets are revealed that lead Suzanne to form unexpected friendships while fumbling to find herself among the decadence of department stores, strip clubs and swinging new neighbors.
White Reindeer is in English, is 82 minutes long, and is Not Rated.
Next up is director Paolo Sorrentino's stunningly visual film The Grand Beauty on Friday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Journalist Jep Gambardella has charmed and seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades. When his 65th birthday coincides with a shock from the past, Jep finds himself unexpectedly taking stock of his life, turning his cutting wit on himself and his contemporaries, and looking past the extravagant nightclubs, parties, and cafes to find Rome in all its glory: a timeless landscape of absurd, exquisite beauty.
The Grand Beauty is in Italian with English subtitles, is 142 minutes long, and is Not Rated.
Then comes director Clio Barnard's poignant film The Selfish Giant on Friday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. An official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, The Selfish Giant is a contemporary fable about the self-reliant 13 year-old Arbor and his best friend Swifty. Excluded from school and living as outsiders in their own neighborhood, the two boys are put to work by a local scrap dealer. But a wedge in their once unshakable friendship leads to an event that transforms the entire community.
The Selfish Giant is in English, is 91 minutes long, and is Not Rated.
