Hector Lincoln Returns In Staged Reading of AGAINST HIS WILL

Audelco Award nominee Hector Lincoln will mark his return to the New York stage in David Heron's Against His Will- The Staged Reading, which will have its Long Island Premier at The New Vibe Lounge in Rockville Center, Long Island on Sunday February 17 at 7pm.

Heron himself directs this produced reading of his courtroom drama.

The Jamaican born Lincoln, who has also enjoyed a career as one of the most successful male models his home country has produced, made his professional New York stage debut in Heron's romantic comedy Love and Marriage and New York City over a decade ago. He was nominated for the Audelco Award for Best Ensemble Cast for his performance, along with fellow actors Sundra Oakley, Christine Campbell and Heron, who also directed the production.

Since then, Lincoln- a graduate of the Actors Institute and a former student at London's Royal School of Music, has worked extensively in film and television.

His television credits include appearances on Orange is The New Black, Law and Order SVU and Law and Order, Criminal Intent. He was also one of the original hosts of MTV's Caribbean Channel TEMPO. His film appearances include What Happens in Vegas, the award winning La Vida Blanca and most recently, the short feature Unspoken.

Set in modern day Jamaica, Against His Will is the story of Daniel Bryan, a young computer salesman who accuses his female boss of having had sex with him without his consent. When he decides to file charges against her, the stage is set for a dramatic legal battle that erupts in controversy across the Caribbean nation, creating a media frenzy and shaking the very foundations of the island's judicial system.

Lincoln will play multiple roles in the staged reading production, including members of the nation's media as well as ordinary Jamaican citizens who are alternately stunned and outraged by the sensational legal case.

"It is really a great pleasure to be collaborating again with David Heron on what I view to be such a timely and interesting project," says Lincoln. "And as an actor, the challenge of bringing to life multiple characters who are caught up in the drama and excitement of this controversial case is something I am eagerly anticipating. I think audiences who come out to see us are going to be intrigued and entertained but also challenged to re think many stereotypical views we have regarding gender roles, sexual consent and the judicial system. It promises to be quite the evening."

Although the play and its subject matter is creating considerable buzz in the current atmosphere of the #ME TOO MOVEMENT, the play is not a new one. Heron wrote the script over fifteen years ago and the play has been successfully produced or performed in Jamaica, Canada, the United Kingdom and in several heavily populated Caribbean markets within the USA. But it has never received a mainstream American production.

Just as the #ME TOOMOVEMENT began dominating headlines a few years ago, Heron picked up the script again, updating some socio cultural references as well as toning down parts of the script with heavy Jamaican dialect.

The revised version had its first public presentation as a staged reading at The Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn last September, where it opened the 2018-19 season of The Frank Silvera Writers Workshop series. The reading shattered the audience attendance record for the series and has lead to high demand for the staged reading production to be remounted elsewhere, including Long Island.

The Rockville Center presentation is the first of several performances which Heron is hoping will eventually lead to a fully mounted production of the play.

Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant will sponsor a Caribbean Cuisine reception following the reading and talk back.

Additional casting for the production will be announced shortly.

The New Vibe lounge is located at 60 N Park Avenue, Rockville Center, NY 11570.

Tickets to the event are $30.00 including buffet, and will go on sale next week.
