The musical Kimberly Akimbo follows Kimberly Levaco, a 16-year-old girl in 1999 suburban New Jersey who has a rare genetic condition causing her to age four to five times faster than normal, leaving her trapped in the physical body of a 72-year-old.
Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. In this “howlingly funny heartbreaker of a show” (The New Yorker), Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush…and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds. Embark on a Great Adventure in this Tony-winning musical about growing up and growing old in the most unconventional way.
This will be the regional premiere of this production with a full live band and a cast of local talent!
“Kimberly Akimbo” is a tiny, idiosyncratic musical with a cast of only nine actors that somehow manages to share the full Broadway experience with its opening night audience at Kansas City’s Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
