Inge Center's Karen Carpenter to Direct AFTERGLOW Reading in NYC

William Inge Center for the Arts Artistic Director Karen Carpenter takes a sojourn from Kansas to New York City to direct a presentation of the new comedy "Afterglow." The reading takes place Friday, January 13, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Produced by Jonathan Demar, with Geoff Cohen as producer/general manager, this poignant story by Jonathan Green will be presented at an invitation-only industry reading. It is the tale of five couples exploring the next stage of their relationship at the moment when need replaces desire and honesty rears its head.

The cast is comprised of Max Adler ("Switched at Birth," "Glee"); Blair Bomar ("Queen of the South,"; "From Dusk to Dawn: The Series"); Stephanie Fantauzzi ("Shameless"); Philip Hernandez ("Gotham"); Luke Hofmaier ("The Wolf of Wall Street"); Brennyn Lark (Broadway's "Les Miserables"); Larisa Oleynik (Nickelodeon's "The Secret World of Alex Mack;" the film "10 Things I Hate About You."); Roxann Remekie ("Brooklynification"); Lucas Caleb Rooney ("Red Speedo," "The Orphans Home Cycle"); and Robin Lord Taylor ("Gotham.") The Associate Producer is Mercedes Ayala-Green. The Stage Manager is Joel P. Elins.

Karen Carpenter (Director) is a producer and director, and Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and its annual Inge Theater Festival honoring playwrights for distinguished achievement. Karen directed the premiere of Delia and Nora Ephron's Drama Desk award-winner "Love Loss and What I Wore," which ran a record three years in New York and has played all over the world. She will revive it for one night only Feb 5 at the 92Y in New York City, with Carol Kane, Rosie O'Donnell, Tracee Ellis Ross, Natasha Lyonne and Lucy DeVito. This year, Karen will direct her first feature film, a contemporary adaptation of Inge's novel, "Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff"; Robert Weinbach's screenplay was one of three finalists in the California Women's Film Festival's Best Feature Screenplay category. Jonathan Green (Playwright) is an actor, playwright/screenwriter from Corbin, Kentucky. He graduated cum laude from Eastern Kentucky University with an emphasis in English/Creative Writing, before studying theatre and screen acting at AMDA. His works have been performed at Pace University, as well as the Manhattan Repertory Theatre Festival and the New York New Works Theatre Festival. "Afterglow" was recommended to the Writers/Directors workshop at The Actors Studio by Stephen Lang, where it was workshopped for 5 months to great acclaim.
