Audio Supervisor

The Audio Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and directing the Audio Department for the Office of the Arts in the managing of the on-site, backstage operations of the theater performances and production support facilities of the Office of the Arts (OA). They are responsible for developing and executing strategies to support the artistic and technical needs of all clients, outside, internal, and student. They facilitate the use of the Office of the Arts venues and provide expertise, relying on both institutional knowledge and industry best practices, in audio and communications equipment as well as a general understanding of all theatrical disciplines and equipment for both internal and external clients.



ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES



• Oversee the logistical planning and technical operation of all Audio and Communications equipment and infrastructure in all Office of the Arts venues and facilities.

• Direct the Associate Audio Supervisor and Assistant Audio Supervisor in the day-to-day maintenance, inventory, deployment, and operation of all audio systems and equipment in support of all internal and external clients in the Office of the Arts venues.

• Complete advance work for the audio aspects of all theater events and productions and provide technical expertise and supervisor to said events and productions

• Independently supervise intermittent technicians and student employees in OOA venues. Supervising includes highly specialized theatrical tasks while applying and enforcing safe working practices.

• Plan and supervise audio maintenance, improvement, and repair projects in all OA facilities including capital projects.

• Manage and maintain the Audio department budget.

• Direct teams of Full Time, Overhire, and Student Employees on ArtsEmerson load-ins, outs, special events, and work calls. Support other productions and events as assigned. Provide “hands-on” assistance to those clients that require more help with the technical setup of their production.

• Collaborate with other Production department heads and the Senior Manager of Production to develop Production department policies and procedures.

• Oversee the assembly and execution of the technical aspects of all Office of the Arts virtual productions.

• Manage and maintain all audio inventories, including software and audio documentation in Box.

• Analyze technical riders and other show documentation to determine the audio support needed.

• Coordinate with other Production Department heads in the planning and execution of all technical elements of all productions.

• Inform project budgets for audio equipment rentals, expenses, and outside services.

• Work with clients and or rental shops to integrate rented equipment with OOA infrastructure

• Oversee the creation and distribution of audio overhire and student crew calls and schedule confirmation.

• Offer technical advice and expertise during productions as required.

• Oversee the facilitation and operation of Office of the Arts digital events.

• Manage the department's operational and project-specific budgets for equipment purchases, rentals, and repairs.

• Ensure that best practices for health and safety are being adhered to by all users of the theaters.

• Purchase equipment and track supplies for shows, events, and maintenance.

• Develop and implement strategies and processes for Audio Department operations, including budget planning as it relates to Audio equipment purchases, rentals, repair and maintenance.

• Create weekly Production full-time staff schedules.

• Assist the Production Business Manager with processing payroll and performing ABI maintenance as needed.

• Conduct new hire orientations for overhire stagehands.

• Serve as the lead Audio Engineer, operating audio consoles in a FOH (Front of House) or Monitor capacity, programming audio playback systems, and frequency coordination for wireless equipment as needed.

• Serve as Technical Supervisor on Duty (TSoD) for shows, events, work calls, and rehearsals as assigned.

• Train student employees, overhire employees, and OA Production staff in the safe and proper use of audio and other backstage equipment.

• Plan and execute projects as appropriate.

• Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.



• Bachelor's Degree or 4 years' experience in Audio Engineering, theatrical supervisor and crew management

• Experience with large format digital audio consoles required

• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required

• Bachelor's Degree in Audio Production or related field preferred.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.



• Experience with video editing and live-streaming software including vMix and the Adobe Creative Suite preferred

• Knowledge of current audio technologies and digital presentation technologies

• Knowledge of theatrical audio operations and equipment

• Strong knowledge of signal flow as it pertains to a live audio environment.

• Proficiency with recording, playback and show control software, including QLab and ProTools

• Ability to solder and perform basic electrical repairs

• Demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Suite

• Knowledge of the theatrical industry and OSHA safety procedures and practices

• Self-starter with good problem-solving skills

• Ability to work in high-stress situations with varied personalities

• Ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks

• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances

• Knowledge of patch bay systems and their operation preferred

• Knowledge of proper rigging procedures for loudspeaker systems and other audio components preferred

• Experience with wireless microphone systems and their operation preferred

• Proficiency with computer-aided drafting preferred

• Additional knowledge and experience with theatrical rigging and counterweight systems preferred

• This position is active in nature, continuous movement is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.



• This position works in a theatre and an office environment

• Exposed to the very loud noise levels of power tools and sound systems

• Occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions

• Exposed to dust, oils, chemicals, and fumes

• Exposed to vibration, moving mechanical parts, and the risk of electric shock

• Works at height and various stage elevations

• May occasionally work in a confined space

COMPENSATION



Compensation for this position will be between $ 61,058 - $ 74,796 annually, commensurate with experience.



Grade of Position: 23-08E



Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
