Associate Manager, BrickBox Theatre - The Hanover Theatre

Part of downtown Worcester, MA's growing theatre district and exciting renaissance, the BrickBox is a new performance venue where professional artists are empowered to have their music, dance, films, plays, installations, cabarets, and other performance events presented to audiences eager for a wide range of creative experiences. Our flexible space seats up to 299 warm bodies, and comes fully loaded with state-of-the art equipment. Support spaces include three dressing rooms, a palatial green room, wardrobe facilities, and a gorgeous rehearsal hall. The JMAC and the BrickBox are programs of the Worcester Cultural Coalition operated in partnership with The Hanover Theatre For The Performing Arts.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Associate Manager works closely with the BrickBox Managing Director on all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the BrickBox Theatre at the Jean McDonough Arts Center (JMAC).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

Coordination with Presenters

· Respond to inquiries from presenters seeking to use the BrickBox, schedule and host presenter site visits, draft and execute quotes and license agreements, and schedule events

· Communicate with finance department for invoicing of deposits and final payments from presenters

· Collect ticketing, marketing, production, logistical and other information for events and communicate to all theatre staff through use of the ASM booking calendar

· Maintain communication with presenters as their event date approaches, and facilitate scheduling of production, operations, box office and facilities staff as required

· Provide final accounting of ticket revenue and expenses to presenter at conclusion of event

Event Management

· Act as “manager on duty” for approximately 50% of events in BrickBox, functioning as primary contact for presenter on day of event

· Act as first person in and/or last person out of the building as scheduled

· Fulfill basic production needs for presenter when lighting, sound or other technicians are not required or called

· Liaison with other theatre and JMAC staff to facilitate good communication and provide for the best possible experience for the presenter

· Work with presenter, theatre and JMAC staff to establish and maintain high standards for guest experience at each event

Venue Management

· Meet weekly with JMAC and theatre staff

· Maintain ASM calendar for use of BrickBox and other JMAC spaces, both for events and for internal use including maintenance and production work

· Ensure proper use and care of theatrical lighting, sound and other BrickBox equipment

· Communicate maintenance needs to other theatre staff as needed

· Participate in generating monthly report to Worcester Cultural Coalition regarding BrickBox operations

SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS:

The employee must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate that they can perform the above responsibilities and essential functions to a high level of competency, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Ability to work extended or irregular hours to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays is required.

2. Ability to read, listen and communicate in English at a high level of proficiency, both verbally and in writing.

3. Ability to read, listen and communicate in other languages is helpful but not required.

4. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and use of the internet.

5. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

6. Ability to work independently and problem solve.

7. Ability to collaborate professionally and productively with other staff.

8. Superior organizational and time management skills.

9. Ability to manage and coordinate numerous projects and tasks simultaneously in a busy, high-pressure environment.

10. Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, donors and members with high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy.

11. Ability to maintain a friendly, positive and professional attitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

1. Ability to stand for long periods of time (upwards of 5 hours) and climb stairs repeatedly.

2. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel.

3. Ability to move throughout theatre environment and building, and continuously perform essential functions for an extended period of time.

4. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 LBS continuously.

5. Ability to see details at close range.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

2. 3+ years experience in theatre management, front-of-house management or theatre production.
