Houston Ballet Academy's annual Spring Showcase returns to the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Theater Center on April 28 and 29, 2017. The showcase features an array of performances by Academy students from Level 1 through Houston Ballet II, designed to highlight the immense talent of all the Academy's students.

HBII and Professional Program students effortlessly embrace Artistic Director Stanton Welch's intricate Brigade - a Houston favorite having been created on the company in 2006. Excerpts from August Bournonville's historic Konservatoriet will be performed by the Academy's Pre-Professional Program, and is staged and coached by Middle School Principal Cheryne Busch. Audiences will also enjoy David Lichine's upbeat and lively Graduation Ball. The performance concludes with Stanton Welch's Studies featuring students in all levels; emphasizing the Academy's ability to take students from preparatory ballet and develop them into skilled professional dancers.

"Studies by Stanton Welch is succinctly endearing," raves Academy Director Vicki Attard. "To witness pure ballet steps done with grading levels of assurance and poise is very gratifying. This ballet grows with each student through their Academy years, and allows students to not only measure their successes, but actually see their future."

Houston Ballet Academy's 2017 Spring Showcase is Friday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 29 at 1:30 p.m. in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Theater Center. Tickets begin at $35 and may be purchased by calling 713-227-2787 or online at houstonballet.org. Proceeds from ticket sales help subsidize tuition for all students enrolled in the Academy.
