Breakdown

TWELFTH NIGHT: Character Breakdowns

Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition for all roles EXCEPT Sebastian, who must be Asian. Malvolio –The role of Malvolio has been cast.

Viola –The role of Viola has been cast.

Duke Orsino 25-35. Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, is a very handsome young man deeply in love with Olivia. Tall; lean, but well built; noble. Please submit men of all ethnicities.

The Countess Olivia 25-35. She is gorgeous, elegant, and ladylike, but with a strong sexuality underneath. Please submit women of all ethnicities.

Sir Toby Belch 50+. Sir Toby Belch is Olivia’s uncle and something of a minor-league Falstaff. A penniless drunkard who was born into a noble family. In love with Maria, a servant. He is overweight. Should be able to move WELL on stage and have excellent comic timing. Please submit men of all ethnicities.

Sir Andrew Aguecheek 30-45. Dimwitted, hysterically funny guy, tall and very thin, a character actor. Please submit men of all ethnicities.

Maria 30-55. Maria is Olivia’s servant. Though she begins by attempting to keep Sir Toby under control, she quickly becomes one of his cronies and the brains behind the plot against Malvolio. Please submit women of all ethnicities.

Feste 50+. Feste is Olivia’s jester mature; insightful; height and weight unimportant. Must sing and must play at least one stringed instrument well. Please submit men of all ethnicities.

Sebastian 28-35. Lean build; good-looking. Height important: MUST BE 5’4” – 5’9”. Please submit Asian men for this role.

Antonio 30-40. Sea Captain; extremely masculine; muscular; good swordsman; a force to be reckoned with. Please submit men of all ethnicities. Supporting role.

Fabian 30-45. A gardener up for all kinds of fun and trick-playing. Character actor who can move well. Please submit men of all ethnicities. Supporting role.

Ensemble roles include Valentine, Curio, Priest, Officers, and Attendants. The roles of Viola and Malvolio have already been cast.
