SEEKING

Equity actors for chorus parts in THE KARATE KID (see breakdown).

The producers, creative team and casting team are committed to an equitable, inclusive, and accessible casting process for The Karate Kid. We are seeking people of all races, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and gender identities to audition. As we continue to develop the show, the current draft will go through many revisions and ultimately who we cast will reflect those changes. The breakdown and vocal ranges below refer to the characters as they are currently written and are not meant to limit the actors we're looking to cast in the roles.

SEEKING:

ALI’S DAD/ENSEMBLE: he/him. 30s – 40s. This character is South Asian. Ali’s Dad is an affluent member of the community who likes to host extravagant parties. Oblivious to his daughter’s struggles, he is more focused on his image and status. ENSEMBLE.

ALI’S MOM/ENSEMBLE: she/her. 30s-40s. This character can be Black, Indigenous, White, API, Latine, Mixed or MENASA. Ali’s Mom is an affluent member of the community who likes to host extravagant parties. Oblivious to her daughter’s struggles, she is more focused on her image and status. ENSEMBLE.

KIYOKO/ENSEMBLE: she/her. Mid-20s. This character is Japanese. Kiyoko is the love of Miyagi’s life, who tragically dies in childbirth. Appears as a dream to Miyagi and Daniel. ENSEMBLE.

ENSEMBLE: he/him/she/her/they/them. The ensemble can be Black, Indigenous, White, API, Latine, Mixed or MENASA. Charismatic singers and fit dancers for Keone and Mari’s contemporary choreography. Spiritual Guardians, lively California residents, parents, teachers, karate students and tournament spectators. Strong pop/rock vocalists & mixers. Bass/Bari: Down to a F2 || Tenors up to a Bb || Alto/Mezz to C5 || Soprano up to F5.
